City of Water Day
Now in its 17th year, City of Water Day — taking place this year on Saturday, July 13 — is a region-wide day organized by Waterfront Alliance and New York–New Jersey Harbor & Estuary Program (HEP), to champion a climate-resilient New York and New Jersey harbor.
Dozens of communities across all five boroughs, Westchester and Rockland counties, and New Jersey will host events on and near the water that celebrate the importance of a resilient and equitably shared waterfront. From free kayaking to rowing to hands-on workshops, these events offer community members opportunities for fun, education, and access to their local waterfront. This year’s theme centers on uniting New York and New Jersey communities in a celebration of our interconnected waters and a commitment to a brighter, more climate resilient future. Every year, HEP is able to support a select number of local organizations interested in hosting a City of Water Day event.
This year Central x South East Brooklyn CDC joined the Coney Island Beautification Project along with the New York City Health nd Hospital Corporation, South Brooklyn Health Center for a Health & Resource Fair at Kaiser Park. The event was a mix of health, environmental, and creative resources for all in attendance including various screenings, NYC Parks, and different conservancies, screen printing t-shirts, and painting trash containers.
