meet our founder: Rona Taylor

Rona Taylor earned a Bachelor of Arts in Ethnic Studies from UC Berkeley, a Master of Fine Arts in Scenic Design from the New York University Tisch School of the Arts, and a Master of Social Work from the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College.

Her most recent endeavor as Executive Director of the Central and South East Brooklyn Community Development Corporation (CxSE BK), was founded to unify people to promote mental, physical, maternal, and environmental health.  Over the course of her career she has worked at the intersection of health equity and justice in the fields of HIV/AIDS, harm reduction, reproductive health, and social emotional learning.

Inspired by both African American environmental thought, which in part understands our role toward nature, as a “collective duty of stewardship, of homemaking”, and eco-feminist thought, which looks at maternal thinking and mothering as a means to extend an ethic of care and protection beyond one’s own children, to both the community and the world at large, Rona weaves together the ideas of mothering and mother earth.

By combining her experience in the arts and public service, Rona has created a framework that would promote health and healing while helping us become better tenders of the earth.
